The driving force of an electric motor is torque - not horsepower

The relationship between torque and horsepower is often misunderstood ( not only by beginners) .

The most common misconceptions occurs when the number of poles should be changed. Here are some examples: - Redesign from 2 to 4 poles Technician in the workshop is given up from redesign when he found out that the new HP will be twice lower although the torque remain unchanged. - Redesign from 4 to 2 pole Other one is happy when he finds out that the new HP will remain the same but is confused when he finds out that the torque will be twice lower. Here we have no intention to explain in detail what it is the torque and horsepower of an electric motor, because it is a part of basic theory of electrical machines. We want just to inspire you to study the theory thoroughly in order to avoid misconceptions and bad decisions in practice.
