Why you should pay attention while recording the winding data and diagram of motor from any refrigerant compressor, regardless the manufacturer (Copeland, Bitzer, Bock, Honeywell, Hanbell etc)?
Because, almost each of them has a very tricky internal connections and you should know in advance, before stripping the winding, what could be expected in order to pay attention on particular things. If you failed to record the proper connection, in some cases the winding recreation from the scratch is not possible, because of specific working conditions of particular compressor that are usually unknown . These winding are so called "part winding start" .
In the last years PWS system (part winding system) has replaced the previous Y/Δ motor.
PWS advantages are:
• high efficiency in dumping inrush current up to 65% of the looked rotor current
• and low cost for switch combination. In general, there are two ways to do that job: - the first is relatively simple: the starting with part of winding, for example with half, or one-third or two-thirds of whole winding in wye or delta connection, - the second way is more complex but very often used.
It could be related either to increase the winding resistance in start-period or increase the differential leakage of whole winding while the motor is starting. Also there is an option that combines both the actions in the same time. That's why we recommend you to contact us with some basic information ( nameplate etc), BEFORE STRIPPING THE OLD WINDING.
